Grace for your spirit December 18, 2013

Grace for your spirit
Learn to do good; Seek justice, reprove the ruthless, defend the orphan, plead for the widow.  Isaiah 1:17

Isaiah One is a sorry description of God's people who had completely lost their way.  God was sick of their hypocrisy and Isaiah called for repentance and change.  This verse is their marching orders.  Learn to do good, seek what is right and just, correct the ruthless, and help the orphans and widows.  Centuries later James reaches out to rebellious people, who were hearers of the word and not doers.  James 1:27, "visit orphans and widows in their distress, and keep oneself unstained from the world."  The admonition to clean up and do good is certainly applicable to every generation including ours.
