Grace for your spirit October 5, 2009

Grace for your spirit

What profit is the idol when its maker has carved it,
Or an image, a teacher of falsehood? For its maker trusts in his own handiwork when he fashions speechless idols. Habakkuk 2:18

Idolatry causes us to trust in the created things instead of our Creator. We put our trust in worldly things rather than our God. That’s why it is wrong and useless. Can a decorated rock or piece of wood become our teacher and Savior? Of course not. Remember the movie, “The 10 Commandments”, when Pharaoh placed his dead son on the idol. That big black rock bird was the god of their underworld. Pharaoh promised the bird everything to bring his son back to life. The bird didn’t speak, and the boy remained dead. As a kid, I knew the bird idea wouldn’t work. I hope I never grow up and think it will work. Let’s trust in the living God for the living.

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit

Philippians 4:23
