Grace for your spirit July 23, 2009

Grace for your spirit

And He saw a poor widow putting in two small copper coins. And He said, "Truly I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all of them; for they all out of their surplus put into the offering; but she out of her poverty put in all that she had to live on. Luke 21:2-4

The rich religious people couldn’t believe their ears. After they had filled the collection plates with their tithes and offerings they were proud. It was the kind of serious cash really needed to keep the Temple and the Priests going. It also made them feel superior about their contributions. Right then, Jesus praised a poor widow and her two small copper coins. They thought, “Who needs her pittance?” Jesus knew that it wasn’t the size of the gift, but the size of the sacrifice that made it special. When we give, is it ever really a sacrifice? When it is, any amount is blessed.

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit

Philippians 4:23
